This month we are dedicating our entire blog post to the recently launched local business, Circle Back. Circle Back is a marketplace for buying and selling preloved children's clothes. The founder, Sharday Engel, was previously featured on our blog as a badass style and mom blogger. She is a Mama of two and an Aussie expat who's been living in Canada for over 8 years now. We are so excited to be highlighting her inspiring work once again.
Sharday has the clothing business in her blood. Her grandparents started their own successful children's coat company in Australia in the 1950s and her dad followed suit by joining the business early on. She herself studied Advertising and Merchandising before working in womenswear at Aritzia and Kit and Ace.
As it does for many parents, having kids made Sharday reflect and reassess where she wanted her career to be headed. She was led to the organic and sustainable baby clothes brand VONBON where she was truly following her family legacy in the children’s clothing industry. Talk about a full-circle moment! But VONBON closed in 2018, forcing Sharday to pivot once again.
“I am passionate about the environment, and the wastefulness of fast fashion is something that really concerns me. I want the world to be in a better state for my children, than it has been handed down to us.” - Sharday Engel
As a mother, she realized that there was a massive opportunity to curate and sell second-hand children's clothing. Circle Back hopes to reduce the amount of clothing going to landfill by providing an affordable and easy way to sell pre-loved clothes and give them a second life.
You can get involved by either buying or selling! As a buyer, you can find sizes 0-8 Y in any style under the sun including shoes and accessories. They conveniently offer local pickup here in Vancouver in Mount Pleasant or shipping across Canada and the US. Circle Back has not only threaded sustainability through their platform but into their shipping as well. Their packaging is either designed to be reused, repurposed or recycled - all the way down to the reusable and compostable jute string that ties up each order. As a seller, the process is done completely online for safety and ease with consignment standard payouts.
One of their buyers said, “It feels so good to be able to give our kids’ clothes a second life and, given the rate at which they’re growing, to be able to save money towards their new wardrobe.”
We love how she is supporting circular fashion by making the buying and selling of pre-loved kids’ clothes easy. Plus, Circle Back supports their community through BabyGoRound. BabyGoRound is a local charity that provides essential baby items including gear, diapers and clothing to families in need throughout the Lower Mainland. Circle Back sells a collection of styles where 50% of the proceeds go directly to BabyGoRound.
Our values at GREIGE are low maintenance, functional design, sustainability and giving back. We are thrilled to see those same values embodied in Circle Back’s business model and ethos! Congratulations to Sharday and the entire Circle Back team on their launch. Shop and learn more about Circle Back at shopcircleback.com
